Montessori Preschool in Huntington Beach
Preschool & Kindergarten · Ages 3 – 6
Montessori Child Development Center (MCDC) has been a Montessori school in Huntington Beach since 1982. Our Primary program is our preschool and kindergarten: a mixed-age classroom for children ages three to six, where children work hands-on with carefully designed materials that support language, mathematics, sensory awareness, practical life skills, and cultural understanding.
MCDC is accredited by the International Association of Progressive Montessori (IAPM), and today it is managed by the Senanayake family, longtime Huntington Beach residents. You’ll find us at 5702 Clark Drive, Bldg. B, Huntington Beach, CA 92649.

What preschool looks like at MCDC
Ages three to six represent the stage of the Absorbent Mind, a crucial period when conscious learning begins to emerge. Children learn best through direct interaction with their environment, so our classrooms are prepared to encourage independence, concentration, and a love of learning.
Our trained Montessori guides support each child through careful observation and intentional instruction. Lessons are presented individually or in small groups, so children progress at their own pace while being gently challenged.
Mixed ages, real community
The mixed-age Primary classroom encourages cooperation rather than competition. Younger children learn by watching older classmates; older children deepen their own understanding by helping younger ones. Children learn to care for their environment, respect one another, and take responsibility for their choices.
The Kindergarten year
The third year of Primary is our Kindergarten. Children begin as observers in their first year, grow into active participants in their second, and emerge as confident leaders in their third. Kindergarten students experience the joy of reading independently, serve as role models for younger peers, and finish the year well prepared for first grade, which they can continue at MCDC in our Elementary program.
